It’s difficult to comprehend what life on Earth was like millions and millions of years ago – here’s 6 amazing traits of 6 equally amazing (but very different) dinosaurs to give you an idea of what creatures used to inhabit our planet.

#1 T-Rex
When you think of dinosaurs it’s probably the Tyrannosaurus Rex that instinctually comes to mind. This is fully justified – after all it was one of the most massive and blood thirsty dinos around.
In line with its reputation of being a lethal killer, the T. Rex had an incredibly powerful bite. Scientists estimate that its bite could exert up to 12,800 pounds of force (for comparison, an alligator has a bite force of around 2,000.)
#2 Stegosaurus
The Stegosaurus is easily recognizable by its row of kite-shaped plates rising vertically along its spine and its spiked tail.
While the Stegosaurus was a massive creature it still had a teeny tiny brain which was only about the size of a walnut. This is incredibly small, especially considering the dinosaur’s large body, which measured up to 30 feet long.
#3 Triceratops
The Triceratops is easy to recognize with its two large horns above its eyes and a smaller one on its nose, alongside a sturdy frill.
Despite being a vegetarian, this dino had an impressive set of teeth. Their teeth were arranged in groups called batteries containing 36 to 40 columns in each jaw, with several teeth per column.
#4 Velociraptor
Popularized by movies as cunning and fast, the Velociraptor was smaller in real life, roughly the size of a turkey. Interestingly, Velociraptors had a large, sickle-shaped claw on each hind foot, which they used to tear into prey or grip it tightly. This claw was about 2.6 inches long and is a distinctive feature of the species.
#5 Diplodocus
The Diplodocus was one of the longest dinosaurs ever and could reach up to 175 feet from head to tail.
Its most interesting trait was its whip-like tail, which some scientists believe could be cracked like a whip to create a sound loud enough to deter predators or communicate with other Diplodocus.
#6 Iguanodon
Iguanodon was one of the first dinosaur species to be discovered and recognized due to its distinctive thumb spikes. These thumb spikes were likely used as a defense mechanism against predators.
Each spike could be as long as 6 inches and made for a great weapon for fending off enemies.
