With ongoing wars and natural disasters looming large overhead, our world can seem like a pretty dark and tragic place. Still, there are glimmers of good deeds that give us hope. The inspiring story of this 6-year-old from Rhode Island is one such glimmer of hope – he’s started a poop-scooping business to pay for a cat adoption.

Luca Arpin is a young boy with a passion for animals, especially cats. After meeting a kitten named Pebble at the shelter where his mom works, he fell in love.

But this responsible young man knew he needed funds to cover adoption fees and future pet costs, so he got to work – anything to be united with the cat of his dreams.

The Birth of “Poopa Scoopa Luca”

Luca launched his poop-scooping business with a catchy name: “Poopa Scoopa Luca.” His service charges $15 for cleaning up after one dog and $20 for multiple dogs. The business took off, and he was soon able to save enough money to adopt Pebble, his very own shelter kitten.

A Unique Business Venture for a 6-Year-Old

Unlike most other children (actually, unlike most people) Luca actually enjoys cleaning (to his mom’s surprise and joy). His mom, Robyn Bouchard, noted that he’s always eager to help out at the shelter. Luca loves cleaning up and considers it fun, which is why he was willing to take on the task of poop-scooping for his neighbors.

Also, if you’re a fellow cat lover and obsessed with felines, you’ll know that cleaning is a small price to pay to receive the unbeatable cuddles from a cat.

Over 90 Fostered Pets and Counting

Luca and his mom are no strangers to animal care. They’ve fostered over 90 pets from the local shelter, finding homes for each one. This exposure to animals in need has sparked Luca’s dedication to helping even more. He wants to keep earning money to support other animals at the shelter.

Although the problem of family-less animals and the sad conditions they endure are heartwrenching, it’s important that we focus on the countless selfless and kind animal lovers out there that are willing to help.

Why Stray Dogs and Cats Have Become Such a Big Problem in the U.S.

Stray dogs and cats are a significant issue in the U.S., with an estimated 6.3 million companion animals entering shelters annually. Contributing factors include pet overpopulation, abandonment, and a lack of access to spaying and neutering services. Many pet owners sadly also don’t realize that failing to spay or neuter animals leads to more strays, as unplanned litters are often left to fend for themselves.

Moreover, the ongoing and very pressing economic challenges and housing issues can also lead to pet abandonment, adding to the growing number of strays.

The Support of a Loving Mom

Robyn not only works at the shelter but also drives Luca to each poop-scooping job. She helps him with tasks like tying up the bag of waste and managing supplies. Despite her guidance, Luca does the actual cleaning himself and handles each job like a true professional.

Luca’s hard work paid off, and he finally brought Pebble home, but his mission didn’t stop there. He plans to continue earning to help more animals. In other words, finally getting his paws on his dream cat, Pebble, was definitely and thoroughly deserved.

A Bright Future for “Poopa Scoopa Luca”

Now that he’s adopted Pebble, Luca is still going strong with his poop-scooping service. His dedication to animals and his willingness to work hard show just how passionate he is. This young entrepreneur might only be six, but he’s making a big difference for animals in his community.
