Bison is Too Big for the Yellowstone Boardwalk

Bison Cracks Through Boardwalk

Yellowstone National Park, with its vast landscapes and diverse wildlife, offers visitors countless breathtaking moments, sometimes, even unexpected ones, like a bison not quite meeting the weight limit of a boardwalk.

A Peaceful Stroll

The boardwalks in Yellowstone National Park were erected to allow visitors to traverse the diverse terrains safely and get close to nature. They weren’t made with the weight of an adult bison in mind.

At the boardwalk near the Norris Geyser Basin, a bison confidently sauntered up to cross the boardwalk, when the unexpected happened. The wooden planks, unable to bear the weight of the massive creature, start to crack. The sound of splintering wood echoes, capturing the attention of onlookers.

The incident is a stark reminder of these majestic creatures’ sheer strength and weight. While bison are a common sight in Yellowstone and often appear calm and docile, their massive size can lead to unexpected situations like this.

A Word of Caution

The video serves as a cautionary tale for visitors to national parks. While it’s a privilege to witness wildlife in their natural habitat, it’s essential to remember that these are wild animals in unpredictable environments. Safety precautions are crucial, like staying on designated paths and maintaining a safe distance from wildlife.
