Found tied up in a back alley in New York City, this dog was left alone in the sweltering heat. He was in terrible condition, without food or water, and covered in dirt. Thanks to the warm hearts of passers-by and two police officers, this dog may have a chance to survive.
Alone And Fighting The Heat
While a heatwave spread across New York City, this heartbroken pittie was left chained up in a back alley. A man passing by noticed him and instantly called for help. Julie, president of the Franklin Angus Fund, set out to save this broken boy. Heartbroken by the sight of him, Julie wasted no time in starting the rescue of the pittie, now named Mr. Pickles. The team couldn’t believe the cruelty that this dog had faced.
Rescuers Refuse To Give Up
45 minutes, and lots of treats later, the team got Mr. Pickles into the car and headed to the vet. The vet stayed open late waiting for the heartbroken pup to arrive. Everyone worked hard to try and help Mr. Pickles. With vet clearance, he was admitted into the Rescue City program. Here, he spent time with other dogs to grow his confidence and receive all the love that he had always wanted.
A Prescription Of Tender Love And Care
After several weeks in the program, Mr. Pickles, now renamed River, finished his time at his foster home with a volunteer, Gretchen. River found his forever home with a family that did everything and more for him. River’s new mum, Cathy, still recalls the day they first met. Her eyes teared up as they instantly formed a forever bond. River settled in with his new family fairly quickly. His love for humans began to grow as he realized that we aren’t all that bad.
The Best Funny Kind Of Family
At his forever home, River made a surprising discovery. 3 goats that the family had rescued. Surprisingly to the family, River and the goats became best friends. He would wait every day to go out and play with his new buddies. River continued to grow in confidence and his personality began to shine through. Although he had been through so much cruelty, he showed nothing but love and appreciation for life. River’s forever family knew that they could not change the past but they promised to give him the best future.
