It was a typical day. She took her usual path through the neighborhood near her home. Her dog was trotting happily beside her. She enjoyed these moments, the quiet, the fresh air, and dog’s company. It was their daily routine and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

As they walked in San Gabriel Valley, nestled in Sierra Madre, the dog suddenly turned his head and tried to sniff in the direction of the bear. The owner felt a tug on the leash and looked down at her dog, who was staring intently at the bear.

She followed his gaze and froze. Just a couple feet away, a massive bear was staring at them. The bear was so close she could see the detail in its fur. Her heart pounded in her chest.

The dog started jumping towards the bear, tugging on the lead. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Generally bears were known to be in the area, but she had never seen one up close.

After realising what was happening, her mind was racing quickly. She tugged her dog back as it was jumping and tried to pull it away from the bear.

A Safe Retreat

Managing to pull the dog away from the bear, she lifted the leash up, lifting the front paws of the dog off the ground. She redirected the dog away and they crossed the road and got to safety. What a close call!
