On a cold night before Christmas in 2018, a moment of unimaginable cruelty was captured on CCTV in Stoke-on-Trent, England. A white and black Staffordshire Bull Terrier, later named Snoop, was abandoned by the very person he trusted most.

The footage is heartbreaking: a man steps out of the car, carrying Snoop’s dog bed like a piece of discarded luggage. He places it on the pavement, unclips Snoop’s leash, and without a backward glance, runs back to the car. Snoop, tail wagging, blissfully unaware of the betrayal, chases after the car as it speeds away, desperate to get back to the only family he’s ever known.

For hours, Snoop stayed by that bed, the only thing left to remind him of the life he once had. As the night grew colder, he curled up in the bed, waiting for a return that would never come. The loyalty in his eyes, even in the face of abandonment, was heart-wrenching.

Finally, a passerby spotted Snoop, alone and shivering, and took him to a local vet who contacted the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The story of Snoop’s abandonment, captured in that devastating footage, would soon break hearts around the world.

A Nation Weeps for Snoop

When the RSPCA shared Snoop’s story, the response was overwhelming. The footage spread like wildfire, and millions of people across the globe were moved to tears by the sight of Snoop chasing after that car, not understanding why he was left behind. Offers to adopt Snoop poured in from far and wide, including one from rapper Snoop Dogg himself, who was deeply touched by the story of his namesake. But while the world watched and wept, Snoop was struggling to heal from the emotional wounds left by his abandonment.

At the RSPCA’s Gonsal Farm Animal Centre, Snoop was given all the love and care he needed to mend his broken heart. The staff there worked tirelessly to build up his trust, coaxing him out of the shell he had retreated into. Day by day, Snoop began to show signs of the happy, loving dog he once was, but his scars ran deep. Finding the right home for Snoop, one where he would never again feel the sting of abandonment, was no easy task.

A New Life with Laurence

The search for Snoop’s forever home was meticulous, with the RSPCA carefully sifting through thousands of applications from people wanting to give Snoop the life he deserved. Among those applicants was Laurence Squire, a man from rural Hertfordshire who had recently lost his own Staffordshire Bull Terrier. When Laurence saw Snoop’s story on the news, he felt an instant connection. He knew, without a doubt, that he could give Snoop the love and security he so desperately needed.

Laurence, who works from home, offered Snoop a life where he would never have to feel alone again. His spacious home, with its large yard and surrounding fields, was a paradise for a dog like Snoop, who had known too much pain.

When Snoop arrived at Laurence’s home, it was as if he knew he was finally safe. He immediately jumped onto the sofa, curling up as though he had found his rightful place. Laurence recalls, “It was as if he was saying, ‘This is mine now. I’m home.’”

A Love That Heals All Wounds

Snoop’s transformation in Laurence’s care has been nothing short of miraculous. The dog who was once left on the roadside now spends his days playing in the yard, lying by the fire, and snuggling under the duvet with his head on the pillow, just like a member of the family. Laurence describes Snoop as a dog who “adores being warm,” and who has a new favorite spot: right by Laurence’s side.

Rachel Butler, an RSPCA spokeswoman, visited Snoop in his new home and was moved to see how far he had come. “The bond between Snoop and Laurence is beautiful,” she said. “Snoop’s eyes, once filled with sadness, now sparkle with happiness. He’s finally where he belongs.”
