Family Shocked When a Kitten’s Head Popped Out of Their Wall Followed by 4 More

Shana Levenson wasn’t a cat person. In fact, she’d never owned a cat in her life. But that was about to change in the most unexpected and heart-tugging way. What started as an ordinary day quickly turned into something out of a crazy dream when Levenson and her family discovered that their home wasn’t just theirs—it was also home to a family of cats.

It all began when strange scratching sounds echoed from the walls and ceilings of their New Mexico home. At first, they couldn’t pinpoint the source of the noise. They tried to ignore it, brushing it off as something harmless. But then came the meows—faint, desperate cries for help. That’s when they knew something was terribly wrong. 

A Tiny Head Appears 

Determined to solve the mystery, Levenson reached out to her neighbor for help. The heat of the New Mexico summer was climbing, and she was terrified for whatever was trapped inside. With his help, they cut a hole in the wall, hearts racing as they hoped for the best.

What happened next was like something out of a movie. From the darkness of the wall, a tiny head emerged. A tiny, gray kitten—no more than five weeks old—poked its head out, wide-eyed and confused. The family couldn’t believe it. Levenson’s son had been begging for a cat for weeks, but she had always said no.

Yet here she was, face-to-face with the little gray kitten they would soon name Ash. In that moment, everything changed. Levenson, the self-proclaimed dog lover, had fallen head over heels for the kitten that had quite literally come out of her wall.

More Kittens Keep Coming

As Levenson and her family tried to process what had just happened, they heard something that stopped them in their tracks—more meowing. Could it be possible? Could there be more kittens hiding behind their walls? The answer was yes. 

Over the next few days, they managed to lure out 3 more kittens, using the sounds of meowing to coax them from the safety of the walls. One by one, they emerged, each more timid than the last. Levenson couldn’t help but laugh and call their wall a “kitten vending machine.” 

But as grateful as they were to have rescued the kittens, one remained—the mama cat. She was elusive, frightened, and unwilling to leave the dark shelter where she had given birth to her babies. With patience, kindness, and a humane trap, they were finally able to rescue her as well.

Mystery Solved

The big question still loomed—how on earth did a mama cat and her babies end up inside their ceiling? Levenson, determined to find answers, checked her home’s security footage. What she discovered was nothing short of incredible.

Weeks before, the mama cat had leaped from a tree in their backyard onto the roof and found her way into a vent. It was there, in the dark corners of the ceiling, that she gave birth to her little ones.

New Homes

Now, all five cats are safe and sound. Little Ash found her forever home with the Levenson family, where she quickly became a beloved member of the household. One of the other kittens went to a friend of Levenson’s, and the remaining 3 were taken to a shelter, where they’re waiting to be adopted by loving families. 

In the end, it seems that fate—or perhaps the “kitten gods,” as Levenson joked—had a plan all along. What started as a strange noise in the walls became a heartwarming rescue, bringing five beautiful cats into a world where they would be loved.
