Imagine spending every single day hoping for love, only to be overlooked time and time again. That’s the heartbreaking story of JP, a gentle dog who’s been waiting for over 1,700 days—5 long years—in a shelter, longing for a family to call his own. His dreams of a forever home have been crushed over and over again, yet somehow, he still waits, filled with hope.

5 Years of Loneliness and Heartache

JP was just like any other dog when he arrived at Bideawee Animal Shelter back in 2018. His world was turned upside down when his owner, who was deployed in the military, had no choice but to surrender him. JP was left in a cage, not understanding why his person wasn’t coming back for him. He had no idea that this cold and lonely place would become his home for years.

JP’s big brown eyes would light up every time a visitor walked by, hoping, praying that maybe today was the day. But days turned into weeks, then months, then years. For 5 heart-wrenching years, JP has been overlooked. How do you explain to a dog that their only crime is being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Devastating Return to the Shelter

After 4 long years in the shelter, JP’s dreams seemed to come true. He was adopted. His new family adored him, gushing over how sweet and loving he was. JP finally felt safe—finally had a place to call home. But then, just when he started to believe he was home, everything was ripped away.

His adopter’s elderly parents moved in, and JP, confused and frightened, didn’t know how to handle the sudden change. He growled out of fear, looking for reassurance he never received. In the blink of an eye, the home he had waited so long for was gone. JP was suddenly returned to the shelter, even though it wasn’t his fault. He was once again abandoned, left wondering why he wasn’t good enough to stay.

Still Waiting for Someone to See Him

Now 10 years old, JP is a gentle, kind-hearted boy who adores long walks, snuggles on the couch, and his favorite treats like cheese and chicken. He’s spent over 1,700 days waiting for someone to give him the love he deserves. All he wants is a quiet home where he can finally feel safe—where he can trust that he won’t be abandoned again.

It’s hard to explain the pain of watching JP’s face light up with hope every time someone visits, only to see it fade when they leave without him. He watches the door, waiting, but they never come back.

The shelter staff love JP dearly, but it’s not enough. He needs a family. He needs a real home, a place where he can feel the warmth of love, not the cold bars of a cage.

JP Deserves a Happy Ending

JP has been waiting for over 1,700 days. That’s 1,700 nights spent alone, 1,700 mornings waking up without a family. Time is running out for JP, and with each passing day, the fear grows that he may never get his happy ending. The thought of JP spending his golden years in the shelter, alone and forgotten, is too much to bear.

He doesn’t have much time left to find the love he’s been waiting for his entire life. All he wants is a chance—to belong, to be loved, to know what it feels like to be home. Will you be the one to give JP the happy ending he so desperately deserves?

Time is running out for JP, but you can change that. He’s waiting for you.

I don't believe this story. If this was true, why wouldn't you mention who to contact if someone is wishing to adopt JP.

Where can JP be adopted? Would he be ok with other animals?
