Cats are curious creatures. They bring home all types of things, but this one brought a raccoon and it stayed. This is their story of friendship. One morning, the kitten came home. But this time, it wasn’t alone. As the house owner opened the door a raccoon followed closely. It was sniffing around, exploring its new surroundings. The kitten’s owner was startled. Who wouldn’t be? A raccoon in the living room, making itself comfortable. This was a very unusual sight to say the least. There was hesitation. Would the raccoon be aggressive? Would it harm the kitten? All the usual worst case scenarios. But the raccoon seemed calm, almost like a pet.
Establishing Territory
The raccoon began exploring the house. The kitten seemed very attached. It checked every corner. The kitten followed, as if showing it around its new home. As they walked around, the kitten would rub up against the raccoon. They spent lots of time together. These two unlikely friends chased each other around the house. As they walked around the house together shoulder to shoulder, the kitten would wrap its tail around the back of the raccoon. It was so sweet! The pair went outside. They explored the garden, up and down. The kitten leading the way, the raccoon following. Undoubtedly they seemed inseparable. Clearly, a true team.
Owner’s Acceptance
The owner accepted the raccoon. Moreover it was clear the raccoon meant no harm. It was part of the family now, just like their little kitten. A vet visit was necessary. The raccoon needed to be checked. You don’t want a wild creature making it home, in your home, without it being thoroughly checked. The kitten seemed to tame the raccoon’s wild side. They balanced each other out. The raccoon was less wild, the kitten a bit more adventurous.
Raccoon Mischief
Raccoons are mischievous by nature. They get into cupboards, knock things over. But like any pet or child, they test the patience of a loving parent. Raccoons likely originate from nearby woods and can bond with other animals, as seen with a kitten, which this raccoon befriended without showing aggression. While typically wild, some raccoons can adapt to human environments. They are omnivores, enjoying a diet of fruits, vegetables, and cat food. Raccoons seek food and shelter, and this one found both with the kitten. They live around 2-3 years in the wild, are nocturnal, and communicate through various sounds and body language. Known for their excellent memory and swimming ability, raccoons are highly adaptable animals.
