Meet Pete, The Farting Wombat Who Goes Crazy Over Corn

If humans can fart up a volcanic blast from their backsides, why not animals? Well, the thing is animals are more subtle, they can let go stinkers, like my dog and look the other way as if to say, “it wasn’t me!” It is more amusing when it involves a sourpuss that farts while eating like a Tasmanian Devil and I’m talking about none other than Pete, the farting wombat who went viral in 2016. In case you missed out watching this hilarious tyke and his antics, here’s another chance to see him in action.

Pete is a hairy-nosed wombat who’s not shy about sharing his unique talent with the world. His introduction? A rather impressive fart while being offered corn by his handler. And yeah, he’s a live corn grinder too.

“It wasn’t me,” claims his handler. But we all know the truth, don’t we? Pete’s gaseous greeting was impossible to ignore. In case you didn’t quite catch it, turn up your volume, because Pete is too smart to let on, he just let go one.

Pete is crazy over corn. Once he  gets his paws on some corn, it’s a sight to behold. Imagine a beaver gnawing through wood, but furrier and more determined, that’s Pete for you.

Looking at Pete tackle that corn, it’s as if his was a machine mouth or corn grinder if you will. Sweet corn is Pete’s absolute favorite. His handler’s attempts to make friends involve a lot of corn and a lot of effort to keep up with Pete’s boundless energy.

Holding Pete is like trying to hold on to one big muscle. The handler’s struggle is real as Pete munches away happily. Pete gives the corn a real workout and proves to be tough to manage for his handler, he is a real wriggler.

Yum Yum Moments

Pete’s munching sounds are oddly satisfying as he devours his treat. But once the corn feast is over, it’s time for Pete’s precautionary pain relief to ensure his journey back to the sanctuary is comfortable. Even this becomes a spectacle.

Medication Mayhem

Pete’s not just about the corn. When it comes time for his medication, he’s just as enthusiastic or maybe too fussy. He is a complete handful when it comes to medication, and who wouldn’t, given the medicine might be tasting awful.

Trying to get Pete take his medication is difficult as you will see in the video. Just watch out though, because getting too close might result in a face full of wombat breath (or worse).

Banana Flavored?

“Is that nice tasting medication? Do you think it’s banana flavored?” wonders the handler. Pete seems to enjoy it, but there’s no telling with this unpredictable wombat.

Don’t Bite It!

“Don’t bite it, good boy,” the handler pleads as Pete chomps down on his meds. The struggle continues, and at one point, he grabs hold of the syringe in his mouth and nearly snaps it in two.

The Final Dose

“Do you think that could be his last dose of medication?” ponders the handler. Pete seems in top shape, and maybe, just maybe, he’s ready to head back to the sanctuary without further ado.

Did You Know, A Wombat’s Backside is its Weapon?

Wombats just don’t fart from their rear. One of the most fascinating defenses of the wombat is its tough rear end, which consists of fused dermal bones known as a “dermal shield.” When threatened, a wombat dives into a burrow and blocks the entrance with its backside, making it nearly impossible for predators to pull it out. This rear armor can also be used to crush the skulls of smaller predators if they attempt to follow the wombat into its burrow.

A Bundle of Joy, But a Real Farter

Pete the Farting Wombat is more than just a flatulent furball. He’s a force of nature, a bundle of energy, and an absolute delight to watch. Whether it’s munching on corn or taking his meds, Pete does everything with gusto and a bit of mischief. He’s bound to steal the show wherever he goes!
