Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium has welcomed a special addition to its family – newborn clouded leopard cubs. On May 12, clouded leopards Chai Li and Nah Fun gave birth to four healthy cubs. These rare and beautiful animals have quickly captured the hearts of many.
The New Arrivals
The newborn clouded leopards are a week old now. Each cub weighs between 10 and 12 ounces, about the same as a box of corn flakes. Because they are so small, they are being fed by bottle. The zoo staff is taking great care of them to ensure they grow strong and healthy.
Growing Interest
Evidently the birth of these cubs has sparked a lot of excitement. People are eager to see them and have been asking the zoo to livestream the cubs. Many have even offered to donate money to support this idea.
First Portraits
On Sunday, the cubs had their first official portraits taken. These pictures show just how adorable they are. The photos will be shared on the zoo’s website, where updates about the cubs will also be posted. Everyone is encouraged to check www.pdza.org for the latest news and photos.
Looking Ahead
The zoo plans to announce when the cubs will be viewable to the public. Until then, the staff will continue to care for them behind the scenes. Generally there is a lot of anticipation for the day when visitors can see these rare cubs in person.
