Have you wondered recently what the newest dog breeds to be recognized by the American Kennel Club are? I was pretty curious myself. So let’s leap right in together!
2024’s First Addition
This is the official 201st breed of dog recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). The organization announced that this breed is now eligible for thousands of U.S. dog shows. Lancashire heelers historically helped on farm as they could drive cattle and rout rats. These beloved dogs are short-legged, long-bodied and active! Their owners say they sometimes pull back their lips in a move that resembles a human smile.
2022 – Bracco Italiano
The AKC were thrilled to welcome their 200th breed to the registry – Bracco Italiano! Generally, the Bracco Italiano is a strong, active, and sturdy breed of dog. Thus, they would make a great companion for active families. This breed loves people and would be best suited for a family that can give it the love and attention it deserves.
2022 – Russian Toy
Generally, the Russian toy stands around 11 inches and weighs about 6.5 pounds. Furthermore, this breed was developed in Russia in the 1700s and became popular with the Russian aristocracy.
2022 – Mudi
Evidently, the Mudi is an amazing family dog. The breed is very active and intelligent, they love tasks, even if that is simply watching over children playing in the sunshine.
2021 – Biewer Terrier
In 2021, the AKC added only one breed: the Biewer Terrier, a toy breed known for its elegant long hair. Originating from Yorkshire Terrier breeders and first documented in 1984, it is the first breed proven purebred through DNA. Biewer Terriers weigh 4–8 lbs and can live up to 16 years.
Wrapping Up
New dog breeds are a world full of awe! I have never seen any of these before, it would be an absolute dream come true! I think I may need to visit soon to see one for myself! Evidently, this is our official list of newest dog breeds. If you think there should’ve been another breed included in this list, please feel free to let us know in the comments.
