Princess, a resilient cat, was found on the streets struggling to survive. Underweight and visually impaired, she was brought to Timaru’s Family Vet by kind-hearted rescuers. Despite her physical challenges, Princess quickly charmed the clinic staff and found comfort at the vet, even forming a special bond with another cat named Pearl. Her sweet and brave spirit won over everyone, but soon, Princess would face an even bigger battle.
A Sudden Health Crisis
A few months after her arrival, Princess began experiencing violent seizures. Her loyal friend Pearl stayed by her side, but the seizures were both painful and frightening. The clinic’s team, determined to get to the bottom of Princess’ condition, performed an MRI. The results were shocking—a large cyst was found on the left side of her brain, likely there since birth, causing the seizures. To save her, Princess needed immediate brain surgery, a daunting and expensive procedure.
A Community Rallies to Save Princess
The clinic staff refused to give up on Princess. They set up a fundraiser and quickly raised the $25,000 needed for the surgery. With the community’s help, Princess underwent the procedure under the skilled hands of Dr. Richard Jerram. Miraculously, the surgery was a success, and Princess recovered faster than anyone expected. However, her journey wasn’t over yet. Despite the surgery, Princess continued to have occasional seizures, requiring a second operation.
Triumph and a Seizure-Free Life
Once again, the clinic’s staff came together, ensuring Princess received the additional surgery she needed. With courage and determination, Princess overcame this final hurdle and was declared seizure-free. Today, she’s more than just a patient—she’s a beloved member of Timaru’s Family Vet team, acting as a therapy cat and providing comfort to everyone who visits the clinic. Princess’ story is one of resilience, love, and the extraordinary power of community support.
Princess may have faced incredible challenges, but her fighting spirit and the love of her clinic family helped her emerge victorious. She now reigns as the clinic’s hero, spreading joy wherever she goes.
