A Kind Stranger Finds Her

When Donna Lochmann and her team from Stray Rescue arrived, they weren’t prepared for the sight that awaited them. They had seen sad cases before, but this one broke them. The dog—later named Tabea—wasn’t just hurt. She was shattered, inside and out. Her body was covered in wounds, some old, some fresh, and her eyes… her eyes told them she had given up hope long ago.
Lochmann kneeled down beside Tabea, speaking gently as she reached out to stroke her head. For the first time in what felt like forever, Tabea lifted her head, just a little, as if daring to hope that this time, things might be different. The rescuers slowly placed a leash around her neck, and with the tiniest flicker of trust, Tabea allowed herself to be led away from the porch that had been her last refuge.
A New Beginning
At the shelter, Tabea was given warmth, food, and more love than she had ever known. At first, she didn’t know how to respond. She had spent so long being invisible, being unwanted, that the sudden flood of kindness confused her, but she slowly started to let her guard down.
Her rescuers noticed that Tabea’s tail was broken, the pain so severe that she could barely move it. They knew it had to be amputated. Her ears were infected, her body worn thin from malnutrition, and yet… she was still so sweet and gentle.

But just as Tabea was beginning to find her footing, life dealt her another cruel blow. She developed an autoimmune condition that caused her intense pain in her neck and back. It seemed like one heartbreak after another for this sweet girl, but Tabea was a fighter.
With the help of her loving vet, Dr. Schulz, and a course of steroids, Tabea began to improve once again. Slowly but surely, her body healed, and with it, her spirit.
Tabea’s gentle, loving nature touched everyone she met. Despite everything she had been through, she still wanted to love and be loved. It was as if all the pain in her past had only made her heart bigger.
A Happy Ending at Last
Then, the moment came that Tabea had waited her whole life for. On December 21st, 2022, Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared the most beautiful news: Tabea had found her forever home. The dog who had once curled up on a stranger’s porch, broken and afraid, was now part of a family that adored her.
Her new mom showers her with the love she had always deserved. Tabea, who once had nothing, now had everything—warmth, kindness, and a place to call home. And for the first time, Tabea allowed herself to smile. Her tail wagged nonstop, her heart finally at peace.
