Stray cats have always been around, but this one was different. He showed up at the shop one day, skinny and shy. I wasn’t sure what he wanted, but I took a piece of ham from my sandwich and left it for him. The next day, he was waiting again, hungry but patient.
The First Encounter
Paul, as I eventually called him, was nervous at first. He ate the food I left for him but kept his distance. Over time, he grew bolder. I brought cat food to work, and he stayed close by. It wasn’t long before he began sitting with me during my lunch breaks, finding comfort in our daily routine.
Getting Closer
Every day, Paul waited at the shop. He started eating his meals near me, watching me work with quiet curiosity. One day, he jumped into my lap. It surprised me, but I gently petted him. From that moment, Paul wasn’t just a stray anymore. He became my shadow, following me around as if we’d always been friends.
A New Home Attempt
After a few months, I decided to take Paul home. He seemed eager when I invited him into the car, but once inside my house, it was clear he didn’t like it. He refused to eat and wasn’t comfortable indoors. I didn’t want to force him to stay, so I brought him back to the shop, his true home.
Building Him a Space
Winter approached, and I didn’t want Paul to suffer in the cold. I built him a small, insulated house outside the shop. It wasn’t much, but it kept him warm. Everyone at work grew fond of him, and Paul’s little office became part of the shop. He had his space, but he preferred to spend most of his time with us.
A Daily Companion
It’s been two years now, and Paul still waits for me every morning. He sits by the door, ready for his meal and his day spent following me around. He’s more than just a stray cat now—he’s family. Everyone at work loves him, and I can’t imagine a day without him waiting there, ready to start the day with us.
