The First Encounter
Walking back from dinner, we saw her. A stray dog with a hopeful look. We called her Cookie. She stayed outside while we went in, skeptical.
Following to the Restaurant
The next day, she was there again. This time, she followed us to the restaurant. Then to the beach. Cookie was always there, never far behind.
Becoming a Regular Sight
Everywhere we went, Cookie followed. People asked if she was ours. We weren’t sure yet. But she seemed to have made up her mind already.
The Hike Companion
Cookie even joined us on our hike. By now, she was a familiar presence. I suggested letting her stay in our Airbnb for a night.

On the plane, we kept looking at each other. It felt surreal. Cookie lay at our feet, calm and trusting. This was really happening.
Arriving in Denver
Back in Denver, we brought Cookie to our apartment. Our other dog wasn’t sure at first. He sniffed her, curious but cautious. We hoped they’d get along.
Initial Reactions
At first, our dog snapped at her. It was tense. But we took them for a walk together. Slowly, they began to understand each other.
Becoming Friends
After a few walks and shared meals, they became friends. Cookie adjusted quickly. She found her place in our home and in our hearts.
