This Hospice Patient’s Final Wish was Fulfilled In a Very Unique Way

Inside Groves Community Hospice, there is a story of happiness in a basket. Picture this: Somewhat despairing but very committed patient named Carol Heizman, whose eyes gleamed with promise. Her last wish?

The patient craved for something that will ignite the fire that seemingly died within her and turn the corners of her lips upward. So here are the ups and downs of the last days of Carol to enjoy the joy in the form of tiny paws and a fluffy snout.

A Basket of Joy

Heizman died between 17-27, December 2023 at Groves Community Hospice in Hays Kansas and in her final days she had an unusual yet endearing wish. Patient’s last request was very heartwarming – a basket full of kittens to hold and embrace.

Wish Granted

Their emotions got the best of them, and they contacted the Great Plains SPCA. Instead of bringing a single kitten for patient to adopt, they brought her most of the kittens in a basket. Carol was happy right away when she first sees the furry surprise.

The tiny felines in response were allo-feeding and there was delight in Carol’s room as she made hold of the animals. Drawn into a neat package with a baby blanket each, they were bundles of joy to her. One cheeky kitten even nipped onto her shoulder, further enhancing the captured shot.

This simple uncomplicated act of attention from hospice and SPCA was a good indicator of realistic happiness. Carol’s ‘ Snapshot’ was a perfect illustration of the their ‘ Happiness Is…’ project to show that sometime happiness really is a basket of kittens.

Carol’s right to say that pets can give comfort and happiness in the life of its owner. That is why it is possible to say that an individual receives the warmth of a simple wish in the finale of one’s life.

We all should take cue from the video of Carol’s joy; it was a delightful sight to see that a simple act of kindness can weigh a lot in the world.
