Meet Duck, the two-legged kitten with her boundless energy and playful personality. Her owner, Cody, is convinced that she lost her legs so young that it hasn’t bothered her a bit. Duck doesn’t let anything slow her down.
Duck’s story started when a kind stranger found her on the street. She was rushed to the clinic of Cody’s sister, who saved Duck’s life, but it came at the cost of amputating her poor little legs. They suspect she was chilling in a car engine when her legs probably got caught up. Despite her tough beginning, Duck survived!
Learning to Walk Like a Duck
Initially, Cody’s sister brought Duck to Cody for a short foster stay. But within a day of having her, he decided to keep her. Cody fell in love the moment he met her. It was clear that Duck had found her forever home.
Cody decided to name her Duck because of her unique waddle. She took it slow at first, trying to figure out her balance. She would try to stand, then her balance got really good. She picked it up almost immediately. Now she races around the house with the speed and grace of a little T-Rex. “She hits a full upright Usain Bolt around the house,” says Cody. Whether it’s across wooden floors or up on the couch, she never seems to stop moving.
A Purr-fect Playmate
Duck is always full of energy, and her playful nature is contagious. One of Cody’s favorite tricks to get her attention is shaking a bag—Duck can’t resist diving right in! She also loves playing with her toys, chasing light spots from Cody’s flashlight, and zooming around after her siblings.
Duck’s best friend is Bimini, Cody’s little French bulldog. Bimini had always felt left out with Cody’s two bigger dogs, but when Duck arrived, everything changed. “They’re borderline inseparable,” Cody says. Bimini is gentle with Duck, and they spend their days lounging, playing, and even cleaning each other’s faces—a sweet ritual they’ve developed together. Since Duck can’t clean her own face Bimini will clean it for her as best she can. Then Duck cleans Bimini’s face to say thank you.
The Heart of a T-Rex
Despite her lack of front legs, Duck acts like any other kitten. She loves biting her Labrador brothers’ tails, licking their noses, and wrestling for belly rubs from Cody. She chases her toys like a tiny T-Rex on her hind legs. However, it can look a bit more like soccer sometimes!
The Joy of Duck’s Presence
Duck may have lost her legs, but she’s gained a loving family and a life full of joy. She doesn’t let her differences hold her back—instead, she thrives, bringing happiness to everyone she meets. If you want to keep up with Duck, good luck, but you can try on Instagram @purrasicduck where Cody posts her kitten adventures.
“I’m super happy I took her in. She has been an amazing addition to the whole pack,” Cody said proudly. Duck brings joy and laughter to their home every day, whether racing around or snuggling up with Bimini. Cody’s bond with Duck is undeniable. “How could you not love her?” Cody asks. Duck’s spirit of resilience makes her one special kitten.
