I understand someone wanting a selfie with a wild elk. What I don’t understand is the need to get so close to a wild animal. Especially one with antlers the size of this guy!

Banff National Park has strict rules about getting close to wild animals. They recommend keeping 30 metres, or 3 bus lengths, away from elk for safety.

As humans we work a lot of body language. You can do the same with wild animals. If an elk becomes alert or nervous, grinds its teeth or sends its ears back, you’re too close – back off.
