In July 2024, a Californian resident spotted two bear cubs playing on the Ninja Course Playset that she had set up for her grandchildren in her backyard. This encounter shows that everybody, whether you are a human or an animal, loves playtime!
Playtime!
In the video, you can see two bear cubs playing around on a playset in a backyard. One of them is truly fascinated with the swing in the set and doesn’t seem to want to let go. The other one of the two seems to be a little more cautious than their sibling and stands to the side. It’s truly adorable to watch these two enjoy themselves.
The Bear Necessities
Bears are truly wonderful and fascinating creatures! Did you know there are about 8 bear species? Yes! These include the grizzly, black, polar, and even the adorable panda! Bears are typically solitary animals. They will only gather in groups when there’s a large food source. They have a strong sense of smell, which helps them to find food. Bears are fast creatures despite their size, reaching speeds up to 30 miles an hour!
Adorable Bear Cubs
Born in dens during the winter months, these small, helpless bundles of fur weigh only a few pounds at birth. They rely entirely on their mothers for warmth, milk, and protection. As they grow, bear cubs begin to explore their surroundings. They develop crucial skills for survival, such as climbing trees and foraging for food. They’re also playful creatures, as seen in the video. They enjoy a good tumble and wrestle with their siblings. These behaviors help to strengthen bonds.
There’s a Bear in My Backyard
Now what if you were not out in the open and at home, and a bear just so happened to enter your backyard? Here are some simple easy steps to follow to protect you and your loved ones during this encounter:
- Stay Calm: Like with any wildlife encounter, it is best to stay calm, don’t panic! Assess the situation and most importantly, keep your distance!
- Secure Your Space: If you are outside, move slowly indoors and close all doors and windows!
- Make a Noise: Alert the bear from the distance. Use your voice, clapping your hands, loud whistling, or bang pots and pans!
- Don’t Approach: Avoid trying to scare the bear. Give it space! Remember, both you and the bear want to avoid getting hurt!
- Wait It Out: Bears usually move on after a while. Only go outside when it is safe to do so!
Bear Conservation
The bear population faces many threats, such as habitat loss and climate change. Supporting bear conservation projects will help these amazing animals to stay with us for a long time. By spreading awareness, supporting various wildlife organizations, and even participating in local volunteer projects could help these beautiful creatures. However, the most important thing you can do is to always remain respectful when you are in their habitats and follow the guidelines set out by the various wildlife authorities.
The End of Playtime
An encounter like this with these two bear cubs gives us a glimpse into the softer side of wildlife. It’s always important, to remain safe, and it’s best to watch encounters like this from a distance. Remember, your safety and the animals are top priority!
