Born on March 3, coincidentally two weeks before St. Patrick’s Day, the puppy, which goes by the Irish-inspired name of Shamrock, was the only one with green fur in a litter of seven.
The mesmerizing Shamrock arrived at Carole DeBruler’s Golden Treasures Kennel in Pensacola, Florida. A fortnight after its birth, a TikTok showcasing its green fur circulated across the online sphere, amounting to over 8 million views.
At first, many believed it’s unnatural hair coloring was linked to a harrowing illness, but that not the case – experts believe that the bile in the mother dog’s womb had stained it with biliverdin.
Additionally, they believe it isn’t permanent and will shed off over time. In fact, Carole Debruler has already reported that it’s begun to fade but that its “feisty personality is just getting stronger.”
An internet sensation, the likes of Fox News reached out to uncover this fluffy gem, while millions of others worldwide have been in awe of the English cream golden retriever.
This breed tends to have whiter fur than traditional golden retrievers, but not green; the Golden Retriever Club of America shed some light on the situation, “with full siblings varying in color from very light cream to a rich gold,”
Otherwise known as white golden retrievers or European cream golden retrievers, English cream golden retrievers are synonymous with their stunning pale coats and gentle, friendly nature. Deriving from Europe, particularly England, they share the same breed characteristics as their American counterparts but with their signature light, cream-colored coats.
