The Komodo dragon has a fearsome bite. It is set up with sharp serrated teeth and powerful jaw muscles that are capable of devastating injuries to prey!

Komodo dragon saliva contains a potent mixture of bacteria and venomous toxins. These toxins induce rapid blood loss, paralysis, and eventual death in their prey.

Although Komodo dragons are scavengers, they are also skilled hunters and are capable of ambushing prey much larger than themselves!

Eating Habits of Komodo Dragons

Komodo dragons are apex predators with voracious appetites. Furthermore, they can consume up to 80% of their body weight in a single meal!

Their diet consists primarily of carrion. Although, they are also opportunistic hunters and prey on a wide range of animals such as deer, pigs and even water buffalo.

Komodo dragons have shown cannibalistic behavior in the past, with larger individuals sometimes preying on smaller, juvenile dragons to satisfy their insatiable hunger!
