Small dog, big personality.

apple head chihuahua

Despite their tiny size, they still have huge personalities.

Let's get to know them so that you can decide if they're your next cuddle buddy.

Origin of the Apple Head Chihuahua

It derives from the Techichi, a companion dog that was bred by the ancient Toltec people of Mexico.

The breed was brought to the United States in the late 1800s.

Head Shape

True to their namesake, they have a slightly rounded, dome-shaped skull resembling an apple.

This feature differentiates them from the deer-head Chihuahua.

This breed is incredibly petite, standing at a mere 6 to 9 inches tall and weighing between 3 to 6 pounds.

Size of the Apple Head Chihuahua

The Chihuahua is the tiniest dog breed in the whole world.

Apple head chihuahuas are known for their sleek, smooth, and glossy coats.

Coat

While most of them have short coats, long-haired varieties also exist - which naturally require more grooming.

These dogs are known for their sass and spunk.

Temperament

Apple heads are affectionate and form strong bonds with their owners, often wanting to cuddle and be close to them.

However, their strong personalities may also make them somewhat stubborn and prone to developing “small dog syndrome” if they are not trained and socialized properly.

Energy Levels

Don’t be fooled by their petite size—apple head chihuahuas are bursting with energy and enthusiasm.

These require daily physical and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy.

They are prone to dental problems, so it’s essential to maintain good oral hygiene for your pet.

These dogs have a lifespan of up to 15 years or more with proper care
