Lions males reaching up to 500 pounds and females weighing up to 250. By comparison, elephants are much larger creatures, with adult males reaching up to 10 tons and females 8 tons.
While lions may have a clear advantage in size, elephants certainly have an edge in power. Their enormous tusks can be used as formidable defense mechanisms against predators.
Lions feed on large ungulates like zebra, wildebeest, antelope, and buffalo. Elephants are herbivores that mainly eat grasses, bark, roots, leaves, flowers, and fruits.
Regarding speed and movement style, elephants are much more adept at slower but longer distance travel, usually topping out at about 20 MPH the longest of the time.
Each species has its unique strengths and characteristics. Lions are smaller but more powerful, while elephants are larger and more intelligent.
