Although humans are the most evolved creatures,
the animal kingdom should not be overlooked!
An animal's ability to smell depends on Olfactory Receptors (ORs )in their noses.
More receptors = better smell
The part of the brain devoted to the sense of smell is more prominent in some animals.
1
They have nearly 2,000 distinct genes dedicated to the sense of smell.
2
Sharks can detect a drop of blood in approximately 100 liters of water!
3
Thanks to their smell, they can find a dead animal up to 20 miles away.
4
Dogs are able to locate scents older than two week.
5
Snakes have two prongs on their tongues that attract odor molecules in the atmosphere
6
By means of their smell they can detect prey crawling under the ground.
7
They have the ability to detect dead animals from over a mile away.
8
Male moths sniff out female hormone particles in the air via their antennae.
9
RAT
Rats can be trained to sniff out landmines and hidden bombs in warzones.
10
COW
Cows possess 1,100 more olfactory receptor genes than humans have
