Predators of the deep sea, sharks, often evoke a sense of fear due to their imposing presence. Yet, when these ocean dwellers decided to investigate the colossal US Navy vessels, they presented a different perspective. Attracted perhaps by the ship vibrations or leftover meals thrown overboard, the sharks explored the ship’s hull.

Technological Marvel: The Aircraft Carrier

These naval giants represent the pinnacle of American ingenuity and might. Capable of launching and recovering aircraft, these nuclear-powered beasts house thousands of sailors capable of sailing non-stop for over 20 years. Amidst the vast expanse of ocean waters, they are a testament to the nation’s technological prowess.

Well, there is a limited amount of fresh water on a Navy ship. They can use a desalination process for sea water but it must be slow. When you shower, you rinse (get wet) shut off the water, soap up and rinse off. Brief. So when there is a chance to jump into the sea safely, it’s a welcomed activity. Especially when you’re on a submarine that spends most of the time below the surface and they take air tests with a monitor to see if they should surface to take on fresh air. After awhile you feel like you need to have your head examined because you don’t feel human anymore. Navy seals in the water are told to keep an eye out for sharks and if one approaches, punch him in the nose real hard and they will swim away. I was in the Navy from 1968 to 1971 so they might have better desalination procedures now.
