Most dog rescue stories break and warm my heart at the same time, but this story takes the cake. Abandoned by her owners, this mama dog was forced to give birth to her litter on a cardboard box in the streets. Read on to find out what happens to them!
Hopeless
The image of this mama dog lying on a piece of cardboard with her puppies scattered around her breaks my heart. Depleted after the energy it takes to birth 6 puppies, especially if you are hungry and unsure of your safety, left this mama dog broken.
State of Desperation
She gave birth to 6 puppies, 2 of which did not make it. Fragile, tired, and feeling unsafe this mama dog and her litter were exposed in the streets. When kind strangers noticed her desperate state and tried to approach the scene to help these poor animals, the mama dog mustered her last bit of energy to protect her newborn puppies.
The Rescue
Three times the strangers approached trying to help. And three times this brave mama dog gave her all to protect her litter. Caring for her babies no matter the circumstances. We just wish the humans who abandoned her could have done the same.
The Heartbreak
It appears that this mama dog was abandoned not too long before her litter arrived, as she still had a collar on. And her rescuers even speculated that her litter was the reason behind her abandonment. A terrible act to even just consider!
Saved
At the shelter, the mama dog finally got some food – and she was starving! Inhaling three meals that first day, almost double what a dog her size would normally eat. And luckily she had enough milk to feed her puppies – who showed no signs of harm over the first 48 hours!

A Miracle
We don’t know what would have happened to the remaining 4 puppies and their mama if these strangers had not intervened to save them. Forced to give birth hungry, alone, and terrified this mama dog gave her all to protect her pups. And today they are strong, healthy, and safe, just like their mama wanted for them all along!
