If you’re a paw-rent, you know that there are no limits to what we do for our furry babies, especially if their lives are at risk. This dog mom literally pulls her dog out of a coyote’s mouth – had she acted a second later, chances are she never would’ve ever seen her Daschshund Neena again.
Brittany Furlan, actress and wife of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, recently saved their dog from a dangerous encounter with a coyote. The incident, which took place in their backyard in Woodland Hills, California, was captured on their Ring security camera and shared by Furlan on social media.
A Sudden Coyote Attack in Broad Daylight

The attack occurred while Furlan was letting her two dogs out in the afternoon. A coyote ran into the backyard and snatched their miniature dachshund, Neena, by the pool. According to Furlan, it was the first time in four years she had seen a coyote in the area.
Any dog mom will resonate with the absolute panicked scream you can hear before she runs out of the frame and pulls her dog out of the coyote’s mouth.
Furlan’s Quick Action Saved Neena

Furlan ran after the coyote and managed to grab Neena out of its mouth. She mentioned in her Instagram post that Neena’s “chubbiness” saved her from being carried over the wall by the coyote. Neena came out of the situation unharmed, while their other dog was untouched.
The wall in question was 10 feet high, but the coyote (almost) made its way over like it was nothing despite carrying a chunky dog in its mouth. In other words, we should not underestimate coyotes’ strength.
Moreover, the tall wall makes us wonder how the coyote got inside in the first place – if they can climb a 10 foot wall, then how can we keep them out to keep our pets safe?
Coyotes Becoming Desperate for Food

Wildlife experts warn that as food becomes scarcer during the fall, coyotes become bolder and more likely to target pets in residential areas.
Keeping Pets Safe from Coyote Attacks

Citizens for Los Angeles Wildlife recommend never leaving pets outside unsupervised. If a coyote approaches, pet owners should make noise and try to scare it off by waving their arms. Essentially, do anything you can to appear intimidating.
Coyotes can easily scale fences, so small dogs are particularly vulnerable in backyards without supervision.
A Close Call Leads to a Cautionary Tale

Furlan’s video has served as a reminder to be vigilant about coyotes in suburban areas. After the incident, Furlan shared that she would no longer allow her dogs outside unsupervised.
Likewise, it’s strongly advised to not leave food or water outside as this can attract coyotes or other wild animals. Sadly, the reason they’re becoming more and more common in suburban neighborhoods is because they are hungry and their natural habitat simply cannot supply them sufficient food.
