This cat definitely proves that cats have 9 lives – although this one only has 8 after having survived being thrown from a balcony on the 12th floor.

A Miraculous Survival Story

Rue, a cat with tiny pink casts on her legs and a feeding tube around her neck, has made a remarkable recovery. Staff at Home for Life Animal Sanctuary in Wisconsin report that Rue is now alert, eating on her own, and progressing well despite her traumatic past.

In late June, Rue was thrown from a twelfth-story balcony of a Minneapolis apartment building. Stacy Harris, a witness, saw Rue fall and hit the concrete below. The shocking event led to Rue’s immediate rescue by Minneapolis Animal Care and Control. Rue’s legs were set in splints, and she underwent a dental procedure to enable her to eat while her jaw healed. The extensive medical care required several thousand dollars, highlighting the challenges of providing for animals with severe injuries.

Minneapolis Animal Care and Control contacted several rescues, but due to Rue’s severe medical needs, they struggled to find one willing to take her in. Just hours before Rue was scheduled to be euthanized, Home for Life Animal Sanctuary stepped in to save her life.

Upon arrival at the sanctuary, Rue had a broken leg, toe, and jaw. Despite her pain, she showed signs of trust and affection, purring and seeking to be held. This resilience amazed the staff and spurred them to continue providing the intensive care she needed.

Home for Life Animal Sanctuary

Home for Life Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing animals with special needs. The sanctuary provides a permanent home for animals that may not be adopted due to their medical or behavioral issues, ensuring they receive the care and love they need. Caring for Rue and other animals at the sanctuary is funded entirely by donations. The cost includes medical treatments, daily care, and other necessities. Support from the community is vital to continue rescuing and rehabilitating animals like Rue.

The sanctuary decided to share Rue’s story to seek justice for her and to raise awareness about animal cruelty. No one has been arrested for the crime, but the sanctuary hopes that publicizing her story will lead to action and prevent future incidents.

The Importance of Trust

Rue’s ability to trust humans again after such trauma is a testament to the resilience of animals. It also highlights the importance of compassionate care in the recovery process, showing how love and attention can help heal emotional and physical wounds.

Future Possibilities for Rue

Heidi Pulaski, who is fostering Rue, hopes she may one day be adopted. If not, Rue will continue to live at Home for Life, where she will be cared for alongside 100 other rescued cats. The sanctuary aims to provide the best life possible for all its residents. Foster care plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of injured and traumatized animals. Foster families provide a safe and nurturing environment where animals can recover before being adopted or moving to a permanent sanctuary.

Rue’s story underscores the need for stricter animal cruelty laws. Advocates are calling for harsher penalties and better enforcement to deter such acts and protect animals from abuse and neglect.

The Healing Power of Animals

Animals like Rue show incredible strength and resilience. Their ability to recover from trauma and form bonds with humans is a powerful reminder of the healing power of animals and the importance of compassionate care.

Animal sanctuaries rely heavily on community support. Donations, volunteer work, and public awareness are crucial in sustaining these organizations and enabling them to continue their mission of rescuing and caring for animals in need. Witnesses like Stacy Harris play a vital role in rescuing abused animals. Reporting incidents and providing evidence can lead to timely intervention and save lives, as seen in Rue’s case.

Access to quality veterinary care is crucial for the recovery of injured animals. Veterinary professionals play a key role in diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating animals, ensuring they receive the best possible care. Animal sanctuaries provide a permanent refuge for animals that may not be adoptable. They offer a safe and loving environment where animals can live out their lives with dignity, receiving ongoing care and attention.

Supporting Animal Welfare

Supporting animal welfare involves more than just donations. It includes advocating for better laws, raising awareness about cruelty, and promoting responsible pet ownership. Every effort contributes to creating a safer and more compassionate world for animals.
