Evading Capture For Years Before Asking For Help
Over the years, various people had attempted to rescue Mr.Belvedere but he had again and again evaded capture. This was until one day when he walked into the “trap” they had set up for him. It seemed as if he’d understood that he needed help, and finally surrendered.
10 Years of Surviving the Harsh Street Life
Mr. Belvedere, a street-hardened feral cat, was part of a small outdoor cat colony. It’s rare for tomcats to survive on the streets for as long as he did. But surprisingly, Mr.Belvedere had managed to navigate the harsh street life for over ten years.
When he was finally rescued, he had numerous health problems that needed immediate attention.
A Wooden Spoon Becomes the First Step Towards Trust
After rescuing Mr. B, the woman realized that this was going to be one tough journey. She quickly also realized that he didn’t just need medications, his treatment would also have to involve being socialized and becoming used to humans.
Initially, he wouldn’t allow her to touch him. To solve this problem, she used a wooden spoon to gently scratch his back. Over a few weeks, this approach helped him gradually trust her.
Treating His Health Conditions with Patience
Mr. Belvedere’s health was a primary concern. He had ear mites, eye infections, and tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). The woman used the wooden spoon and eventually garden gloves to administer treatments.
Slowly but surely, Mr. B began to recover and show signs of enjoying human interaction.
What Is FIV?
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a virus that affects a cat’s immune system, similar to HIV in humans. It weakens the cat’s ability to fight infections. FIV is commonly spread through bites, making outdoor or feral cats more vulnerable.
However, a cat with FIV isn’t doomed. They can still live long, healthy lives with proper care.
The Transformation from Street Cat to Indoor Cat
As Mr. Belvedere’s health improved, his personality blossomed. Once he started trusting his rescuer, he became open to affection and companionship. The woman soon realized that Mr. B could thrive indoors, providing him with a safe, comfortable place to retire after his tough life on the streets.
Finding the Perfect Forever Home
After his recovery, Mr. Belvedere found his forever home with a loving adopter who instantly fell in love with his big tomcat cheeks. His new owner showered him with classical music, toys, and endless TLC, helping him fully embrace his new life as a beloved indoor cat.
Mr. Belvedere’s story highlights the potential of senior cats, especially those with FIV, to live fulfilling lives with proper care. But above all, it’s also a beautiful example of how just a little bit of love can heal most wounds.
