The Spitting Cobra, also known as the Naja Nigricollis, is a venomous snake in various parts of Africa.

It is known for its ability to spray venom up to a distance of two meters, hence its name, “spitting cobra.”

One of the primary reasons why spitting cobras may bite humans is as a defense mechanism.

These snakes are known to be territorial, and if they feel threatened by  a perceived predator (humans included), they may resort to spitting  venom to deter them.

Naja ashei, the largest spitting cobra, averages around 1.3–2.0 m (4.3–6.6 ft) in total length (including tail).

The largest specimen of this species to date, caught in Kenya, was 2.7 m (8.9 ft) in total length.
