The world’s fattest cat, Patches, is from Virginia and weighs a staggering 40.3 pounds!
Patches’ story began in Richmond, Virginia, where he was rescued by Richmond Animal Care and Control from an abusive situation.
After his rescue, Patches went viral on social media when the rescue centre shared his picture and asked “Did you wake up today and say, ‘let’s adopt the largest cat anyone has ever seen?’”
Patches’ size was alarming, with his backside measuring an incredible 10.5 inches across. His weight placed him among the heaviest cats ever recorded, a whole 40.3 pounds!
In his new home, Patches was put on a strict diet and exercise plan. This regimen was essential for reducing his weight to a safer, healthier level.
Excessive weight can also lead to joint issues, including arthritis, which can severely impact a cat’s mobility and quality of life.
Identifying obesity in cats is the first step towards addressing it. Signs include excess body fat, lack of visible waistline, and difficulty in feeling the ribs under the fat.
