People hunt Thresher sharks for their fins, meat, and liver oil. These items are extremely lucrative on the black market, unfortunately.
They only give birth to a small number of offspring at a time. This slow rate of reproduction makes it challenging to replenish their populations quickly.

One of the primary reasons is illness or injury, which can disorient the shark, causing it to swim ashore.
