11. 200 Swans Battle Opium Addiction in Slovakia

In a bizarre and unexpected situation in Slovakia, nearly 200 swans became addicted to opium after feeding on poppy fields in the region. The swans, attracted to the poppy seeds, developed a dependence on the plant, which is commonly used to produce opiates. Local authorities discovered the issue when the birds began behaving erratically and refused to leave the fields. Conservationists had to intervene, capturing and relocating the swans to a rehabilitation center where they were gradually weaned off the drug. The unusual case highlighted the unpredictable impact of human agriculture on wildlife.
