When conservationists saw the urgent need to protect elephants in Botswana, they knew collaboration was key. Elephants Without Borders (EWB) and leading animal welfare organizations have now joined forces to relocate elephants to safer habitats. This bold effort aims to secure a future for these threatened giants, ensuring they can roam freely without the dangers of poaching and habitat destruction.
The Growing Threat to Elephants
Africa’s elephants are facing unprecedented challenges. Poaching remains a serious issue, but habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict are pushing their populations into further decline. As elephants search for food and water, they often wander into human settlements, leading to dangerous encounters. Without intervention, their survival is at risk.
A Race Against Time
Relocation is an urgent but complex task. The partnership between EWB and animal welfare groups is designed to act quickly, identifying elephants in danger and moving them to protected areas. This process requires careful planning, from tranquilizing and transporting the animals to ensuring their new environment supports long-term survival.
