Duke was a natural guardian. When the baby chicks arrived, he took to them right away. He watched over them, nudged them gently, and stayed by their side. His family called him the “nanny dog” because he never left the chicks alone. From morning to night, Duke cared for them like they were his own.

Always By Their Side

When bedtime came, Duke refused to leave his chicks. He stayed outside with them, curled up near their little home. His owners called him inside, but he wouldn’t budge. The chicks needed him, and he wasn’t going anywhere. Even at ten o’clock at night, Duke stood guard, making sure they were safe and warm.

Saying Goodbye Wasn’t Easy

The family loved the chickens, but they couldn’t keep them forever. A friend offered to take them, giving them a safe place to grow. Duke didn’t understand why his chicks had to go. He searched for them, looked around the yard, and waited. His family saw the sadness in his eyes. He missed his little ones.

A Heartwarming Reunion

One day, Duke’s family had a surprise. They brought him to see the chickens again. At first, there was hesitation. Would the grown chickens remember him? Would they be scared? Duke stayed still, letting them come close. Then, the bond returned. The chickens were calm, just as they had been before. Duke made them feel safe.

A Nanny Dog Forever

Duke didn’t get to keep his chickens, but he never forgot them. He still carried his stuffed toy chick upstairs every night, as if caring for it the way he once did for the real ones. His love never faded. Whether real or stuffed, Duke remained a guardian, always watching over his little flock.

Love That Never Fades

Duke’s story showed the strength of love and loyalty. He didn’t care that the chicks weren’t dogs—he loved them all the same. He protected them, nurtured them, and never forgot them. Even after they grew up, the bond remained. Some friendships are built on trust, and Duke proved that love knows no boundaries.
