Long Tailed Weasel
They are little carnivores in the weasel family (Mustelidae). The significant recognizable proof test is recognizing long-followed weasels from ermine and least weasels. American Black Bear
Black bears were found in the southwest of the Alabama region, but recently the population status increased from northeast Alabama to northwest Georgia. These bears are similar to Florida bears in look but are classified as subspecies. They are omnivorous mammals and belong to the Ursidae family.
Two subspecies of American black bears are found in the Alabama region. One is Florida black bear, and the other is a Louisiana black bear. They are found in around 41 states of the United States and 43 countries near Alabama and other parts of Canada and Mexico. They are mostly found near Little River Canyon in Cherokee County in northeastern Alabama.
They are black to light brown, and some subspecies are beige. The American black bear looks somewhat similar to the brown bear, but the American black bear has more prominent ears with less fur, and the shoulder hump is less. American black bears are enormous, and ma and y vary depending on the season, age, and sex.
Male American bear weighs from 150 – 350 pounds, and females weigh 120-250 pounds. The most giant male American black bear weight recorder was 900 pounds. They are 47-79 inches long with small eyes, ears, sharp teeth, and sharp curved claws. They generally hunt for big animals and climb and dig for food with their sharp curved claws. American black bears typically mature at the age of 3.5 years and can start reproducing within an average of two years.
Due to environmental conditions, sometimes their breeding may vary. From May to mid of July, they start mating and are polygynous, meaning a single male bear can mate with multiple female bears during the mating season. Until a female bear gains enough fat and food, the gestation period doesn’t start. Baby bears are born in January and February. They live in caves, root masses, and ground nests. They sleep a lot in the winter compared to the summer.

Stripped Skunk
Skunks have strips on their back and are well known for a foul smell from their buttocks ends. They are curious animals that are found very commonly on Prince Edward Island, and they have black & white color stripes on their back. People usually distance themselves from these animals because of their curious nature and the foul smell of their butts.
A new virus called skunks, called skunks adenovirus, has also been discovered in skunks in recent few years back, which led to the death of many striped skunks in the Prince Edward Island region. This virus is spotted in other animals like grey foxes, porcupines, raccoons, marmosets, etc. They are 3-15 pounds in weight.
Female skunks are 15 percent size smaller in size than male skunks. During the autumn, they become fat as they start with the hibernation process, which appears from February to March. They usually eat meat and vegetables. They are omnivorous and eat plants, animals, and insects. They eat beetles, crickets, and grasshoppers during the spring and summer. They also help farmers as they use rats, mice, worms, and grubs.
They breed in the March season and can lay up to five or six baby skunks at a time but can be 12 in number. Baby skunks are born in April or May, and when a cub is one month old, mom skunks and baby start searching for food together. During the summer season, baby skunks stay with their mother. They are slow and can run up to 14 kilometers per hour.

Elk
Elk are the native animals of Tennessee and the most crucial part of Tennessee’s ecosystem because they help shape the landscape for earlier state residents. Now a day, they are eliminated from the region because of the hunting of Elk and the loss of habitat in this area. So because of this, Elk are considered endangered animals too.
Elk are large animals; they are more significant than bears and sometimes can be dangerous. The female Elk are very protective of their calves; they may attack people if one touches them, so it’s better to avoid and maintain a distance from female elves with their calves. They are 700 pounds in weight and are 5 feet long from the shoulders.
Elk hunting is illegal in the Tennessee region, and it’s also unlawful to affect and remove any elk parts like antlers. Feeding Elk in parks isis strictly criminal in Tennessee; it can be dangerous to animals and humans.
As we are not aware of the food diet of animals, it may affect their health, and sometimes if humans try to feed them, they get aggressive or defensive and can harm parks and humans. So it’s better to keep a distance while traveling to parks and zoos.

Groundhog
Groundhog is known as a woodchuck, and they come under the rodent category. They belong to the Squirrel family. They are lowland creatures found in different parts of Tennessee. Groundhog is recognized with names like Canada marmot, monax, chuck, wood-shock, whistle pig, and land beaver. They usually live in rocky and mountain areas. Groundhog plays a vital role in the ecosystem; they help maintain the health of the soil in woodland and plain regions.
They are also considered vital habitat engineers. Groundhog works together in groups; they are brilliant, with complex social networks. They created a good relationship with young groundhogs. They communicate and understand threats using whistles. They work together to solve tasks like creating mines or tunnels. They are herbivorous and mainly eat wild grasses and other vegetation diets like crops and berries based on the season they are available in fields.
Sometimes they eat small animals like snails, baby birds, grubs, and grasshoppers, but they are not considered omnivorous. In June, their metabolism slows down, and their food intake decreases. During the winter, they do not store food, and instead, they survive without eating. Even if they don’t drink water, they cover the need for liquid from the juices of plants and vegetables they consume. Adult males weigh up to 3.83kg and are 41.8cm to 68.5cm long. Females weigh from 3.1 to 5.07kg.
They have incisor teeth which are 4 in number and grow 1.5 millimeters every week. These incisor teeth are white; sometimes, they may be ivory white. They have short legs and wide, long claws, which help them dig. Their tail is faster than other squirrel family members.

White-Tailed Deer
White-tailed deer are two meters in length and one meter tall. They are primarily reddish brown and grey. In the summer, their back is reddish brown; in the winter,n, they are mostly found as greyish brown with a white belly. Male deer weights up to 102kg, and female deer are around 72 kg in weight. Their weight may change based on the seasons and food in the region. Only male deer have antlers, and every year, they fall off, and a new pair of antlers replaces the old one. Male deer antlers get more prominent as they age ups. They are found from British Columbia to the Nova Scotia region southward.
They like areas with less snow or not-so-deep snow, so they prefer to live in the British Columbia region as it makes it easier to find food on the surface regions. They usually eat grass, but their diet varies as the season changes.
During the winter, they live together due to the limited areas of food, as most sites are covered with snow. The male deer use their antlers in the breeding season to push away other males. The average life span of white-tailed deer is ten years. They used to mate during autumn, and a bay deer was born in spring. Usually, twins are accepted, but sometimes it can be quadruplets, triples, or a single baby deer. They are also a principal source of hunting by Human Beings for their food and antlers.

Fox Squirrel
Around five species of squirrels are found in the Tennessee region. Their scientific name is Sciurus Niger, with an average length of 45-70cm, including tail length. They weigh up to 500-1000gms. They can live up to 18 years of age. Female fox squirrel life span is 12 years, and for males, it is 8 -9 years approx. But they rarely live this long life span because of hunting, diseases, cold winter weather, and prey birds like eagles. Fox squirrels are one of giant tree squirrels in Tennessee. Fox squirrels live in different habitats, like small patches in forests (trees). They generally choose trees for their home, which provides them with their favorite food, like walnuts, pecans, acorns, etc.
They hide their food in the winter season at many places so that they can use that hidden food during the cold season. They are good climbers and can quickly climb on trees. They are greyish brown fur coats on their back with orange hair on the belly and edges of their tails. But sometimes, their color may vary depending on the location.

Snowshoe Hare
The scientific name of the snowshoe hare is Lepus Americanus which is found in most parts of North America. The front ports of snowshoe hares are enormous; they are named snowshoes, and these big feet help them sink into snow when they walk or hop in snow. They also have fur below their foot, which allows them in the winter.
Their fur changes color as the season changes. In winter, they are white; in s summer, they are rusty brown. On the edges of the ears, they have black tufts. They have short ears as compared to other hare species. They eat grass, leaves, and ferns in the summer, and in the winter, they eat tree bark, twigs, and other hair; they can also eat dead animals but are found very rarely.
They usually eat in small groups. They do not hibernate and are majorly active during nighttime. In the breeding season, the males ultimately attack females, and female hares can breed with more than one male hare. Canada lynx are the predators of snowshoe hares. They are majorly found in forests, which are spread in areas and can have 6-8 months of the winter season (snowfall majorly), and trees can be an average height of 5 meters in deep shrub areas.
They are timid and spend their time around ferns, clumps, brushes, and timber piles. The young hare is more active than the adult hare and energetic throughout the year. Their breeding season varies as per environmental changes like the new location, new crops in farms, latitude, and changes in weather. But generally, breeding starts at the end of December until January and stays up from July to August.
