In a shocking act of cruelty, a homeless dog was discovered in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, covered in green paint. Life for a stray dog is already a battle of survival, and this cruel act highlights how their challenges stretch beyond finding food and shelter every day.

Luckily, a good samaritan and dog lover, the dog’s story took a hopeful turn.

Stray Pup Found Sick and Alone in Malaysia

The pup, a stray with no one to care for him, was found in a terrible state after being abused and painted green by unknown vandals. The fumes from the paint made him sick and faint, and he was left without food or help.

Stray dogs like this one often have to survive under harsh conditions, but they usually pertain to the desperate search for food and shelter – cruel acts like this one are especially alarming.

Good Samaritan Steps in to Help

Shazreen Othuman, who came across the poor dog, decided to step in and assist. Othuman not only provided the dog with immediate care but also posted about the incident on social media, raising awareness of the pup’s tragic situation.

His efforts to bring attention to the dog’s suffering eventually led to the involvement of local animal lovers and volunteers.

If Caught, Vandals Could Be Facing Prison

The story quickly spread across social media, triggering an outpouring of anger and sympathy. Many were heartbroken to see an innocent animal treated so badly. Local animal rights supporters expressed their outrage, calling for justice and demanding that the perpetrators be held accountable.

Animal abuse is a serious crime in Malaysia, with penalties that could include up to three years in prison.

Hopefully the Pup Makes a Full Comeback

Thanks to Othuman’s quick actions and the support of local volunteers, the dog was rescued from the streets.

A volunteer stepped in to give him a bath and remove the toxic green paint. While the pup was lucky to receive help in time, the paint fumes could have caused more serious health problems if left untreated.

Hundreds of Thousands of Stray Dogs in Malaysia

Sadly, Malaysia has a significant stray dog population, estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands.

These dogs often roam the streets, facing hunger, disease, and abuse (such as this cruel act of vandalism). In 2020, Malaysia’s Department of Veterinary Services reported approximately 60,000 stray dogs in Kuala Lumpur alone. The lack of a comprehensive national animal control program exacerbates the issue, as shelters struggle to keep up with intake rates.

Just like the poor dog in this story, most strays rely on the kindness of local animal rescuers and volunteers for survival, while government-led initiatives primarily focus on reducing populations through culling.

Search for the Perpetrators Continues

As of now, the people responsible for this cruel act have not been caught. Authorities are still investigating the case, and the hope is that they will soon be identified and face legal consequences. Despite this, the main focus has been on the fact that the pup is safe, thanks to the kindness of strangers.
