A recent video from the Masai Mara Nature Reserve, Kenya, captures a young male lion bravely protecting his siblings from a menacing, approaching hyena clan.
The Lion-Hyena Conflict
Lions and hyenas have a well-documented rivalry in the African savannah. Male lions are about twice the size of a spotted hyena and three to four times heavier; a single paw strike from a lion can be lethal to an adult hyena. Further, lions do often attack hyenas because they see them as competition for resources.
Masai Mara
This remarkable footage was filmed in the Ngorongoro Crater, Masai Mara via Karen Blixen Camp. It’s not often we get to witness such a raw and natural interactions. These conservation areas are thus incredibly important for preserving these animals and allowing them to live as if humans had never taken over in the first place.
