Llama and Pygmy Goats Escape Enclosure and Cause Traffic Chaos on Busy Road

Dumbarton, Scotland – A clever llama named Noah and his two pygmy goat companions turned a routine day into roadside drama when they broke free from their enclosure and wandered onto the busy A82 highway.[1][2] The unlikely trio brought traffic to a complete standstill on Saturday, drawing amused onlookers and quick action from their owner. These therapy animals, known for their gentle nature, demonstrated remarkable loyalty and agility in their bid for freedom.

The Daring Breakout Unfolds

Noah, a pure white llama from Overtoun Llama Lodges, sparked the adventure while his owner, Kevin McVey, conducted an animal therapy session at a children’s home in nearby Bishopton.[1] McVey had taken four other llamas for the visit, leaving one gate at the enclosure open by mistake. Undeterred, Noah vaulted over a six-foot temporary barrier, showcasing the species’ impressive jumping ability.[2]

His close friends, pygmy goats Penny and Tuppence, refused to stay behind. The goats bashed through additional gates or squeezed through a hole to join him, highlighting their tight bond.[1] McVey later explained that the animals often stick together during outings. The group then ventured onto the A82, where drivers captured the scene on video.

Therapy Stars Turn Roadblock Rebels

These animals serve as therapy companions, visiting care homes and riding elevators to bring comfort to residents.[3] Noah, described as highly intelligent and sensible, likely sought his missing herd mates from the Bishopton trip. Penny and Tuppence, Noah’s “besties,” followed loyally, turning a simple enclosure breach into a full highway disruption.[4]

Traffic ground to a halt as the white llama and his smaller escorts strolled along the road, one of Scotland’s busiest routes. Social media buzzed with clips from witnesses, including one from X user @Barra72 that amused viewers with comments like “Lama Drama ding dong.”[5] Drivers remained patient, treating the spectacle as unexpected entertainment rather than frustration.

Swift Recovery Amid the Chaos

McVey received the alert while heading home and rushed to the scene. He located the group easily, thanks to Noah’s distinctive white coat and relatively quiet roads at the time.[1] Shouting commands and shaking a bucket of food worked like a charm, as Noah responded much like a large dog.

This escapade echoed a 2022 incident when Noah broke out with fellow llamas Delilah and Rose, leading to a three-hour community roundup in Dumbarton East.[4] McVey called them “known escape artists” who relish adventures and possess the athleticism to clear six-foot obstacles. Their mother had similarly fled during the Covid period, passing on the skill.

McVey emphasized their friendly dispositions and intelligence, traits that make them ideal for therapy work despite their wandering tendencies.
