Blake was called ugly once. Hard to believe. He’s a Rottweiler, big and strong. When he first came home, he was full of energy. A little wild, but smart. We knew training would be key. With a breed like his, it had to be. We wanted to guide him right from the start.

Understanding Blake’s Rumble

Early on, we noticed something odd. Blake growled when he played. It wasn’t a warning. It was a deep, happy rumble. At first, we weren’t sure. It started with toys. He’d grab one, shake it, and let out a low, rolling sound. It wasn’t aggression. It was excitement. He was simply talking in his own way.

Training and Trust

Training mattered. We worked on everything—commands, socialization, even nail clipping. We corrected any territorial behavior, especially around food. When we clipped his nails, we made it positive. Treats, praise, patience. Blake learned that hands near his paws meant good things. He wasn’t just learning from us. We were learning from him, too.

The Importance of Body Language

A growl can mean many things. Some people don’t understand that. Dogs speak with their whole bodies. Blake’s growl didn’t come with stiff posture or bared teeth. His tail wagged. His ears stayed loose. He rumbled, but he was happy. Understanding him meant seeing the full picture, not just hearing one sound.

Facing Judgment Online

Not everyone understood. Some said we were reckless. That we’d get hurt. That we didn’t know what we were doing. People can be harsh, especially online. Some questioned our ability to handle a Rottweiler. We ignored the noise. We knew our dog. Blake wasn’t a threat. He was loved, trained, and happy.

Advocating for Blake

Blake is my best friend. I’ll always stand up for him. Some see a Rottweiler and assume the worst. They don’t see the love, the work, the understanding. He’s strong, but gentle. He growls, but it’s joy. He shines in his own way. And to me, he’s the most handsome dog in the world.
