Snowfall rates intensified overnight and into the morning, with totals reaching 6 to 10 inches for the day in St. Louis County.[1][2]

Areas south and east, including southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, stood to receive the highest two-day totals of 8 to 12 inches. Bands of heavier snow pushed northward from the I-44 corridor. Precipitation began tapering between noon and 3 p.m., moving from west to east. A Winter Storm Warning remained in effect until 6 p.m.[2]

Frigid Temperatures Compound the Chaos

Highs on Sunday hovered around 15 degrees Fahrenheit, accompanied by north winds of 10 to 15 mph gusting to 25 mph. Overnight lows dipped near zero, with wind chills plunging even lower. Conditions worsened into Sunday night, with temperatures falling to 3 below zero and wind chills as low as 19 below.[2]

Monday promised little relief, as highs stayed near 15 degrees amid lingering Arctic air. A Cold Weather Advisory followed the storm warning. These extremes heightened risks for travel, power outages, and exposure outdoors.
