In a remarkable display of resilience and teamwork, a dog named Luna survived a harrowing 100-foot fall into a canyon at Colorado National Monument, only to be rescued by the dedicated efforts of Mesa County Search and Rescue. A Joyful Outing Turns Perilous
Luna, a spirited three-year-old Border Collie, was accompanying her owner, Mark, on a scenic visit to Colorado National Monument. The duo, visiting from out of town, stopped to admire the breathtaking views. As Mark opened the car door, Luna, overwhelmed with excitement, dashed out, unaware of the looming cliff edge. In mere moments, she found herself plummeting over 100 feet, landing on a narrow ledge deep within the canyon.
Immediate Response and Rescue Efforts
Witnessing the terrifying fall, Mark’s heart sank. He immediately contacted local authorities for assistance. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office arrived promptly, attempting to reach Luna using a dog-catching pole. However, the depth and terrain rendered this method ineffective. Recognizing the need for specialized intervention, the Mesa County Search and Rescue’s rope team was summoned.
The Daring Rescue Mission
Equipped with ropes and harnesses, the rescue team meticulously descended into the canyon. Upon reaching Luna, they found her shaken but responsive. Carefully securing her, the team ascended back to safety, reuniting Luna with a visibly emotional Mark. The entire operation showcased the team’s expertise and dedication to both human and animal welfare.
