The call came about a dog living near an abandoned building. It was bitter cold, and snow covered the ground. She had no shelter, no warmth. She was alone. A rescue was needed before the cold took its toll. Without hesitation, we went to check on her, hoping she would let us help.
A Frightened and Freezing Soul
She was there, trembling in the snow. Her ribs showed through her thin coat. Her feet were bleeding. She kept her distance, wary and afraid. She had survived alone in this harsh weather, but for how long? We spoke softly, offering comfort. The cold had stolen her warmth, but we would not let it steal her life.
The Trap and the Bait

We needed to act fast. A couple of police friends helped bring a trap. It was the safest way to get her to warmth. We set it up and tossed Vienna sausages inside. She hesitated, sniffing the air. Then, hunger overcame fear. She stepped in. The door shut behind her. She was safe.
A Funny Little Moment
As the trap closed, she let out a loud burp. It was unexpected, almost humorous. Despite everything, she had eaten. A simple thing, but it meant she was already on her way to something better. We greeted her gently. “You’re okay now,” we said. She didn’t know it yet, but her life had just changed forever.
A New Beginning in Foster Care
She didn’t stay at the shelter long. A foster home welcomed her with warmth and care. She ate good meals, curled up in soft blankets, and learned to trust again. Day by day, she healed. She was no longer just surviving—she was thriving. The scared, shivering dog in the snow was now full of life.
Safe, Loved, and Thriving
Rescues like this remind us why we do what we do. One phone call, one act of kindness, can change everything. She had been left to suffer in the cold, but now she had a future. A warm bed, loving hands, and a second chance at life. And that made all the difference.
