When James found Nahkato, a two-day-old wolf pup abandoned by his mother, he couldn’t turn away. Little did he know, this small act of compassion would forge a bond like no other. Nahkato grew into a majestic, 115-pound wolf who sees James not just as a caregiver, but as his pack.

Raising Nahkato From Day One

Nahkato’s journey began at an animal education facility where he was born. His mother rejected him and his sister, leaving their survival uncertain. James stepped in, feeding and caring for them around the clock. They slept beside his dogs and followed him everywhere. The pups thrived, but Nahkato formed an extraordinary attachment to James, becoming his shadow.

Despite his size and power, Nahkato acts like a playful, oversized puppy. He craves James’s attention, always close by, watching his every move. Nahkato’s personality mirrors that of a house cat, curious and demanding. Yet, there’s no mistaking his strength and intelligence. Wolves like Nahkato have deep instincts, but he has a gentleness reserved for his dad.

A Bond Built on Trust

Wolves are selective about who they trust, and Nahkato is no different. Though the staff at the facility help care for him, James is the only one he allows into his enclosure. Years of nurturing and constant presence made James more than a caretaker—he became Nahkato’s family. To Nahkato, James isn’t just a man; he’s a pack member.

A Life in Captivity

Born in captivity and raised by humans, Nahkato can never be released into the wild. Without a natural fear of humans, he wouldn’t survive. James ensures Nahkato’s life is fulfilling, creating a safe environment for him to thrive. Though Nahkato’s story began with abandonment, it transformed into a life filled with care and companionship.

Forever a Pack of Two

James often jokes that Nahkato is more of a “daddy’s boy” than a wolf. Nahkato is loyal, protective, and deeply bonded to the one who saved him. Their connection is a testament to trust and love between species. Though Nahkato can’t live in the wild, he has found his place—with James, his unwavering companion and pack leader.

Nahkato and James share a bond few will ever understand. It’s built on trust, care, and the understanding that family can form in the most unexpected ways. For James, saving Nahkato wasn’t just an act of kindness; it was the start of a lifelong partnership. For Nahkato, James is more than a savior—he’s home.
