US States Where You Won’t Encounter Black Bears

Black bears are common across much of the United States. Yet, in some states, they are absent. Here’s a guide to the states where black bears are not found.

Delaware

Delaware is one of the few states without black bears. Its small size and lack of dense forests make it less suitable for these animals. Delaware has a rich colonial history.

Hawaii’s unique environment keeps black bears away. The islands have no native bear species. Hawaii’s diverse ecosystems, from volcanoes to rainforests, create a habitat unlike that of mainland states.

North Dakota

South Dakota

Wyoming

Wyoming does not have black bears in many areas. The state’s rugged terrain is more suited to grizzly bears. Wyoming is famous for its national parks, like Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
