Mike Mattingly is a retired truck driver from Alabama who has gained popularity on TikTok as the “Mr. Rogers of TikTok” due to his entertaining road stories with his animal companions.
The Early Days with Maxine and Rufus
His journey started with two Chihuahuas, Maxine and Rufus, who shared his love for cats. As they grew older and began to stay home more, Mike’s bond with his feline friends grew stronger.
The Pumpkin Patch at Home
Mike’s wife takes care of a “Pumpkin Patch” of cherished feral cats at their Bear Creek home. They ensure all cats receive proper vet care, including spaying and neutering. Despite their efforts, new kittens frequently pop up as more feral cats find their way to the patch.
Introducing Bobby
During one of his trips, Mike introduced his TikTok followers to Bobby, a kitten who quickly captured their hearts. Fiona, Bobby’s mother, left him at Mike’s feet, and he became the sole survivor of his litter. Nursed back to health by Mike, Bobby blossomed into a playful and loving travel companion.
Bobby’s Rise to Fame
Bobby’s presence in Mike’s truck, filled with toys and a litter box, was a hit on TikTok. Videos of his antics in the truck garnered millions of views, making Bobby a beloved figure online.
Heartache and a Tribute
Sadly, Bobby passed away from a respiratory illness at just four months old. This was a huge blow to Mike, who subsequently donated in Bobby’s name to the Colbert County animal shelter. This gesture inspired the children’s book “Old Trucker and Bobby,” with proceeds supporting the shelter.
The Arrival of the Three Amigos
Shortly after Bobby’s passing, three ginger kittens, the Three Amigos—Popeye, Lulu, and Butterball—were born. Their playful energy and charming antics provided Mike with comfort and joy during a difficult time.
A New Chapter in Retirement
Mike has since retired from trucking and is enjoying life with his extended family of pets, including Popeye, who has become his permanent sidekick. His story continues to inspire his TikTok followers, offering a glimpse into a life filled with furry friends and heartfelt stories.
