Fishing is a popular recreational activity with various techniques and disciplines ranging from fly fishing to deep-sea fishing. Often the goal is catch-and-release but some choose to fish for sustenance. This sport combines skill, knowledge of aquatic environments and patience.

  1. Bait Fishing: Using live or dead bait on a hook, anglers wait for fish to bite, making it a passive yet versatile fishing method.
  2. Fly Fishing: This technique involves casting a lightweight lure, or fly, that imitates insects or small prey, primarily used in freshwater environments. Fly fishing is one of the most popular in sports fishing.
  3. Lure Fishing: Anglers use artificial lures that mimic prey to actively attract and catch fish in both freshwater and saltwater settings.
  4. Jigging: By rapidly moving a weighted lure up and down in the water, jigging mimics injured prey, effectively attracting deep-water fish species.
  5. Trolling: Trolling drags baited lines or lures behind a moving boat to cover large areas, targeting big game fish in saltwater environments.
