In this captivating encounter, a fish eagle exhibited its awe-inspiring physical advantages to secure an unexpected meal.

In the Selous Game Reserve of Tanzania, a surprising event took place. A fish eagle, whose normal diet is fish and other smaller animals, had a lot of extra confidence this day. It decided to take on a young Nile crocodile. An absolute predator in its own right, when grown up.

A Rare Predatory Feat

This encounter is in the wild is so rare, these are the only photos I could find of such a situation. Generally, predators target their prey on animals below them in the food chain. The fish eagle’s decision to take on a crocodile, which would eventually dominate the ecosystem as an adult, is a reminder of the unpredictability of nature.

Nile crocs, big and tough, lurk in African waters. They eat fish, birds, and mammals, living long lives in their habitats. Some say they’re the kings of the river, but humans are making their lives harder. Gotta watch out for ’em.
