OUR FRIENDS the lemurs ๐Ÿ’ visiting our other friends ๐Ÿ‘ซ@vet_travel_wildlife on a #canoetrip ๐Ÿ›ถin #madagascar๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Lemurs used to be as big as GORILLAS ๐Ÿฆ! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ #savethelemurs Lemurs ๐Ÿ’ share resemblance with other primates, but evolved #independently from monkeys and apes. Due to Madagascar's ๐ŸŒด highly seasonal climate ๐Ÿฅต , lemur evolution has produced a level of species diversity rivaling that of any other #primates ๐Ÿต . Until shortly after humans ๐Ÿ‘จ arrived on the island around 2,000 years ago ๐ŸŒ , there were lemurs as large as a male gorilla ๐Ÿฆ . Most species have been discovered or promoted to full species status since the 1990s. #lemursofinstagram #lemure #ringtailedlemur are probably the most well-known of all the different types of lemur because King ๐Ÿ‘‘ Julien from the #madagascarmovie is one. Ring tailed lemurs spend more than a third of their time on the ground ๐Ÿ‚ , more than any other lemur species. They are #sunbather โ˜€๏ธ in the mornings to warm themselves up. You will see ๐Ÿ‘€ them sitting with their arms outstretched, like they are sun-worshipping ๐ŸŒž . They live for up to 15 years #inthewilderness ๐ŸŒณ #animalencounter #everydaymadagascar #animalsaroundtheglobe #animalsaroundtheworld

LOOKS DANGEROUS โŒright? In fact, the #carribbean ๐ŸŒด #reefshark ๐Ÿฆˆ has never been involved in a #fatalshark . Accordingly diving and swimming with them is considered #completely safeโœ…. Despite its abundance in certain areas, the Caribbean reef shark ๐Ÿฆˆ is one of the least-studied large sharks. They are believed to play a major role in shaping Caribbean reef communities #reefsafe These sharks are more active at night ๐ŸŒŒ, with no evidence of seasonal changes in activity or migration. Juveniles tend to remain in a localized area throughout the year, while adults ๐Ÿง‘ range over a wider area. THE #sleeping๐Ÿ˜ด sharks Caribbean reef sharks are sometimes seen resting #motionless on the sea ๐ŸŒŠ floor or inside caves; it is the first active shark species in which such a behavior was reported. In 1975, Eugenie Clark investigated the famed "sleeping sharks" inside the caves at Isla Mujeres off the Yucatan Peninsula, and determined that the sharks were not actually asleep as their eyes would follow divers. Clark speculated that freshwater upwellings inside the caves might loosen parasites on the sharks and produce an enjoyable "narcotic" effect. If threatened, Caribbean reef sharks sometimes perform a threat display, in which they swim in a short, jerky fashion with frequent changes in direction and repeated, brief (1โ€“1.2 second duration) drops of the pectoral fins. This display is less pronounced than the better-known display of the grey reef shark ๐Ÿฆˆ #sharklovers like @oceanramsey and @juansharks are supporting the protection of sharks through #sharkawareness Spread the love for #lovesharks #animalsaroundtheglobe #animalsaroundtheworld
WAKING UP to a giraffe ๐Ÿฆ’ strolling by the pool ๐Ÿ’งThanks #incrediblenature ! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ The #giraffee is the #tallest mammal in the world, standing at around 4-5m high, and the tallest giraffes ever recorded have been up to 5.9m. Thatโ€™s over a meter higher than a #doubledeckerbus ๐ŸšŒ . It shouldnโ€™t come as a huge surprise that such a #largeanimal weighs quite a lot as well โ€“ up to 1900kg, which is more than most cars ๐Ÿš—! A #fullygrown giraffe ๐Ÿฆ’ can raise or lower its head by up to 5m, so it might actually #passout were it not for a dense network of fine capillaries (the โ€˜rete mirabileโ€™) that cushions its brain against rapid changes in #bloodpressure To learn more about Giraffes ๐Ÿฆ’ and where to find them take a look ๐Ÿ‘€ at www.animalsaroundtheglobe.com/where-to-see-giraffes/ We say #giraffelove and #giraffefamily #animalsaroundtheglobe #animalsaroundtheworld
